Empowered

Many years ago a Swedish chemist invented a very powerful substance that would change the world.

He wondered about what to call it so he spoke to a friend of his who was a Greek scholar and asked him what the Greek word for power was. His friend said ‘Dynamis,’ so he called his new invention dynamite. So the word dynamite actually comes from the biblical word for the power of the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8).

We believe the Holy Spirit awesome! The spirit is literally God’s power at work in us which enables us to carry out his mission in this world. We recognise that without the Holy Spirit we are powerless to effect kingdom change in our community, in our city and in our city.

Here at CCM we love the Holy Spirit. We love the way he points us to Jesus. We love to see the fruit of the spirit grow in the lives of people and we love to see the gifts of the spirit put into action in the life of the local church.

We receive the Holy Spirit when we repent and trust in Jesus for the forgiveness of our sins. But after becoming a Christian we can ask to receive more of the holy Spirit, to be filled up, so to speak. This is something that can happen again and again and again.

In the New Testament we read that Peter was filled with the Spirit at Pentecost (Acts 2:4). He was filled with the Spirit again in Acts 4:8 and then again in Acts 4:31. No-where do we read that Peter said ‘Lord I’ve had enough of the Sprit’ or ‘you’ve already given me the Spirit.’ No, he simply received gladly.

So why not ask God for more of the Holy Spirit. As Luke 11:13 says God loves to give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.

Here at CCM we want to be a community of believers who are continuously being empowered by the holy Spirit because we want God’s life transforming power to be right amongst us, guiding us and leading us in all that we do.
