Jesus Is Honest

Sport is rife with lies. Especially amateur sport. As is often the way on a bleak, cold, rainy December morning, it can sometimes be challenging to find enough players. Clearly, this is an issue.

As such, (this is usually a weekly thing) players will enact the I-need-a-ringer-text round on a Friday night. They will ask anyone and everyone, just in the hope of finding numbers. Quality is hoped for but not expected. Simply someone with two legs and a heartbeat.

However, often, as the insecure testosterone flows, people, myself included, tend to oversell their God-given abilities. Consequently, the walking and the talking often do not quite match.

Jesus, like many amateur footballers, also makes some rather outrageous claims about his own character. Thankfully, He wasn’t lying.

1 John 5: 20:

“20 We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true by being in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.”

Jesus doesn’t, didn’t and never will lie about who He is. All of the wonderful characteristics that He embodies that have been looked at through the Christ Church Manchester are actually true.

The claims that he makes, the promises that he brings and the instruction that he gives are all wholly true. When Jesus says that He is the best for us, surprisingly, that’s because He is actually. When Jesus says that He came to bring life to the full, He actually did. When Jesus says…. Okay, you get the picture.

Jesus is absolutely honest. He is incorruptible, perpetually trustworthy and inscrutably true. That is the kind of King that I want to follow!!
