Context

Who Are the Judges?

• Un-elected, not hereditary leaders
• Recognised by the people, anointed by God
• As well as the judges in this book, also Moses, Joshua, Eli & Samuel
• 12 judges mentioned – 6 major and 6 minor (Shamgar, Tola, Jair, Ibzan, Elon & Abdon – Judges 3:31, 10:1-5 & 12:8-15)

The Cycle of Sin and Deliverance
