This message was part of the ‘For Such a Time as This’ series, preached at Christ Church Manchester’s church in Gorton in late 2017. The full series included the following sermons:
This sermon was based on Ephesians 4:29
29Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.
Spoken words can be powerful.
- Gen1:3 Let there be light. … and the world was created
- John 11:43 Jesus said ‘Lazarus, come out!’ … and a corpse came back to life!
Our spoken words matter. We must use them wisely. They have the power both to hurt and to heal – to crush and to encourage. Make a habit of using them carefully and intentionally.
Think Before You Speak
- Is it true?
- Is it kind?
- Is it necessary?
Psalm 19:14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in your sight, oh Lord, my Strength, and my Redeemer.
