BIBLE VERSES

This sermon was based on Acts 3:1-10.

Peter and John Heal a Lame Man

1The time of prayer was about three o’clock in the afternoon, and Peter and John were going into the temple. 2A man who had been born lame was being carried to the temple door. Each day he was placed beside this door, known as the Beautiful Gate. He sat there and begged from the people who were going in.

3The man saw Peter and John entering the temple, and he asked them for money. 4But they looked straight at him and said, “Look up at us!”

5The man stared at them and thought he was going to get something. 6But Peter said, “I don’t have any silver or gold! But I will give you what I do have. In the name of Jesus Christ from Nazareth, get up and start walking.”

7Peter then took him by the right hand and helped him up.

At once the man’s feet and ankles became strong, 8and he jumped up and started walking. He went with Peter and John into the temple, walking and jumping and praising God. 9Everyone saw him walking around and praising God. 10They knew he was the beggar who had been lying beside the Beautiful Gate, and they were completely surprised. They could not imagine what had happened to the man.

KEY POINTS

Offering Prayer Often Leads to Answers to Prayer

  • Bringing the needs of those around us to God is powerful, and many people who don’t believe in God are willing to accept prayer at times of need (after all, what is there to lose?) and when they see God answer those prayers it’s a powerful testimony that often prompts further conversation.

Offering Prayer Leads to Praising God

  • This miracle led to the man not only being able to walk, but to him leaping and praising God.
  • As well as being a wonderful thing in its own right, the healing also had a powerful evangelistic effect on the man, and in everyone who saw the effect of it. They were all filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened.
  • Not every offer of prayer results in an Amazing Miracle and people praising God like in this story. Try not to over think it but instead just keep offering prayer to people, keep bringing people before God. What I’ve found is the more I offer prayer the more stuff happens, because prayer is powerful, it changes lives. Sometimes that change is instant, we pray for someone and there’s an amazing miracle, other times we have to pray for days, months even years before change happens.
