For God So Loved the World

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

KEY POINTS

 

Resurrection follows forgiveness

  • God gives us forgiveness of our sins when Jesus went to the cross to die for them
  • It was His sacrifice that pays the penalty for our wrongdoings and wipes us clean in the sight of God
  • But the cross was not the end. The resurrection follows.

Resurrection gives us life

  • Jesus’ resurrection gives us new life — ‘but have eternal life’. That is the gift that God gives to us through the resurrection.
  • Romans 6: 4: ‘Just as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in the newness of life.’
  • God is interested in more than just forgiveness. He gives us a new Spirit, a new life, a permanent life that will be with Him forevermore.

Resurrection gives us hope

  • If Jesus has risen from the dead, then so can I. I have the power of Him who defeated death living in me. That is a message of hope
  • This is a secure and certain hope — We know how it ends. It is not futile or fragile; it is clear and confirmed. 
  • 1 Peter 1: 21: ‘… through Him you are believers in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.’
