PRAY

As a church, we firmly believe that without prayer we can do nothing.

Most of the things that we want to see happening are beyond our own strength, and yet through Christ God has given us the incredible privilege of being able to come to him in prayer. When we pray we come to our Father, asking for his name to be made glorious and his kingdom to be established in the world. We also bring to him our needs, confess our sins and ask for his protection.

prayer week:

MONDAY TO FRIDAY

Starting on Monday January 27th, we will be having a week of focussed prayer across all the sites of CCM.

Between Monday and Friday we would ask you to do two things

Fast – Fasting is a spiritual discipline of going without food for one or more meals to channel the time and hunger to seeking God. We would encourage you to fast at some point this week – whether a single meal, a whole day or more (or if fasting food is problematic – why not abstain from something else for a bit to focus on God?).

Pray – Each day we have chosen a few specific prayer points that we would ask you to pray for – including prayer points for yourself, for our church, for our city and for the world. You could pray about these things in your own devotional times, or gather with a few others to pray together.

Here are the prayer points for each day:

MONDAY JANUARY 27th
  • Personal: Your Friendship Evangelism – Pray for opportunities to share your faith with those you are close to. Pray for your own boldness to speak about Jesus when those opportunities come.
  • CCM: Gorton. We will be moving into our new venue in April. Please pray that from this base lots of people join us and that we can serve east Manchester well.
  • Manchester: Homelessness. Across Greater Manchester there are over 5,000 homeless people (including 268 sleeping rough). Please pray for them and for those working to serve them.
  • Global: UgandaIn November Andy Brownlee was out in Uganda with Richard Thomas and Emmanuel Rucyaba teaching and training pastors. Pray for this country and the continued growth of God’s Kingdom there.
TUESDAY JANUARY 28th
  • Personal: Your Own Spiritual Growth – Pray for your own walk with God. Ask God to help you to keep in step with the Spirit and to grow in holiness.
  • CCM: Fallowfield. Please pray for people to get saved and for lots of new students to join us in September.
  • Manchester: Gangs and Knife Crime. Please pray for those involved in gang and knife crime, and those affected. Pray for peace in our city and for cycles of violence and crime to end.
  • Global: Ukraine – CCM partners with Andrey Bondarenko who oversees a network of churches in Ukraine, including in the war-torn East of the country. Pray for God to strengthen and grow the churches there.
WEDNESDAY JANUARY 29th
  • Personal: Your Workplace (or equivalent) – Pray for your own place of work, study or equivalent. Ask God to bless your colleagues and pray about some of the challenges that you are facing.
  • CCM: Ladybarn. Please pray for the many new people who have come into church recently – that they would be welcomed into the community and meet with Jesus. And also pray that as a site we will be captivated by Christ, listening to the Spirit and stepping out in faith.
  • Manchester: Civic Leaders. Pray for those with positions of authority in our region. Pray for our council, our MPs and our mayor that God would guide their hands and under their leadership all can prosper.
  • Global: Poland – Last year CCM took a team to Krakow to serve churches there. Pray for closer links to develop and for God to pour out his blessings on them.
THURSDAY JANUARY 30th
  • Personal: God’s Presence – Ask God to give you an increased sense of his manifest presence, both as you pray and throughout your day.
  • CCM: Kingsway. Please pray for God’s presence and an increase in faith and love. Please pray too for growth, and for new leaders and members who have recently moved to Kingsway from other sites.
  • Manchester: Young People – Pray for the children and young people in our city and for all the schools and youth workers who are working with them.
  • Global: The Middle East – Pray for the political situation in the Middle East. Pray for peace and for the church in that part of the world.
FRIDAY JANUARY 31st
  • Personal: Hearing God’s Voice – Spend some time waiting on God and listening for what he might be saying to you.
  • CCM: City Centre. Please pray for our first site weekend away in February and for us to grow and reach new people in Central Manchester.
  • Manchester: Artists and Entrepreneurs – Manchester is a city with thriving business and creative communities. Pray for the artists and entrepreneurs of our City.
  • Global: Brazil – CCM has links with a movement of churches in Brazil. Please pray that those churches grow, reach many people for Christ and bless the communities that they are part of.

We are planning to conclude the week with 24-hours of prayer and feasting in Kingsburn Hall.

We will kick off at 8pm on Friday evening, with an hour of corporate prayer and praise. Throughout the next 24 hours there will be a few corporate praise hours with food (burgers at midnight, croissants at 8am, sandwiches at 1pm) and we will end with a 2-hour praise, prayer and pizza session from 6pm to 8pm.

The rest of the time will be split up into 1-hour prayer slots. Book yourself in (with a few friends perhaps) for whatever time you want to go for and come play your part in this 24 hours of prayer. Feel fee to book in for more than one slot if you like!
